Habtoor Polo Club asserted its dominance on Saturday, March 7th, defeating Ghantoot 13-9 in the final of the Ghantoot International Polo Championship. The victory marked a fitting conclusion to the season's final tournament hosted by the prestigious Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, located just outside Abu Dhabi.

From the opening throw-in, Habtoor established a relentless offensive rhythm. Their 10-goaler, Facundo Sola, was instrumental, orchestrating plays from the back and converting critical penalties. Sola's ability to drive the ball downfield, often on his powerful bay, 'El Capitan,' created numerous opportunities for his teammates.

The home side, Ghantoot, struggled to contain Habtoor's fluid attack, particularly in the mid-chukkers. While Ghantoot's patron, Nasser Al Dhaheri, showed flashes of brilliance with some well-placed neck shots, their defensive line often found itself stretched thin. Habtoor capitalized on this, frequently breaking the line of the ball with swift ride-offs and converting short passes into goals.

A key tactical observation was Habtoor's superior pony power in the crucial fourth and fifth chukkers. When the pace intensified, Habtoor's string, notably Sola's 'La Luna' and the swift 'Tormenta' ridden by Habtoor's second forward, allowed them to maintain high-speed transitions and outmaneuver Ghantoot in open play. This advantage was palpable, enabling Habtoor to extend their lead when Ghantoot was pushing for a comeback.

The 13-9 scoreline reflects a comprehensive performance from Habtoor, who showcased a balanced attack and disciplined defense throughout the final. This victory solidifies Habtoor's position as a formidable force in the regional high-goal circuit, setting a high bar for future tournaments and reinforcing the strategic importance of a deep and well-managed pony string.
